Today is #EarthOvershootDay – choose your #PledgeForThePlanet…!

Earth Overshoot Day 2016August 8 2016 is this year’s Earth Overshoot Day. A short cartoon has been created to tell you all about it – watch it here.

On August 8, 2016, we will have used as much from nature as our planet can renew in the whole year.

It takes 1.6 earths to support humanity’s demand on nature, and we only have one. To live like we do in the UK actually requires 2.9 earths. Basically we are using more ecological resources and services than nature can regenerate through overfishing, overharvesting forests and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than forests can sequester.

The research shows that every year the date that we “overshoot” gets earlier and earlier. This is obviously a massive problem, but we can all make changes to our own lives, whether large or small, to help. Choose one of the suggested pledges at #pledgefortheplanet, or have a look around this web-site and choose one (or more!) changes that you can make.

We have been entrusted with care of God’s creation – what change can you make today?
